This pattern makes a head covering that keeps long hair from whipping into your face on a windy day. The finished item looks like an Easter basket without a bottom. The handle goes around your head (over the crown, behind the ears, and across the back of the neck), like a headband. Your long hair goes into the basket.
50 grams of yarn makes a “basket” that is 4 to 5 inches deep. That’s long enough to keep your hair out of your face.
